Taekwondo electronic scoring in Ireland
A plain guide to electronic sparring systems (PSS): what they are, why clubs use them, and which WayChamp system fits your club. Supplied and supported from Co. Tipperary.
The basics
What a PSS does
A Protector and Scoring System puts sensors in the chest protector and in the fighters' socks. When a kick lands with enough force on a valid area, the point appears on screen straight away. Judges still score punches and spinning techniques, but the body kicks are counted by the system.
For a club, that means fighters learn what actually scores in competition, sparring sessions run like real matches, and you can host club events without arguments over who saw what.

Questions
Electronic scoring FAQ
What is a PSS in taekwondo?
PSS stands for Protector and Scoring System. Fighters wear an electronic chest protector and sensor socks, and valid kicks are scored automatically on a screen instead of by judges pressing buttons.
Which WayChamp system is right for my club?
For weekly club training with fewer than 20 members sparring, Club runs on an Android tablet or phone. For bigger clubs, club competitions or running from a laptop, Semi Pro uses the same scoring software as Pro. For national-level events in Ireland, Pro and Pro 2 are World Taekwondo certified.
Are WayChamp systems World Taekwondo certified?
WayChamp Pro and Pro 2 are World Taekwondo certified. Both are available in Ireland only.
Do I need a laptop?
Not for Club, which runs on the Taekwondo Innovation app on an Android tablet or phone. Semi Pro and Pro run on a computer.
Can the socks be swapped between systems?
Club and Semi Pro use the same e-socks. Pro uses magnetic-sensor socks and Pro 2 has its own new sensor socks, so they are not interchangeable. Spare socks are in our shop.
How much does a system cost?
Every club set-up is different, so we quote each one. Tell us your club size and what you will use it for and we will come back with a price.
Can we try it before we buy?
Yes. We run free club demos so your coaches and fighters can try the system on your own floor.
